Welcome to the Home of the Blues and Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll WELCOME TO MEMPHIS You are an important person to us, and we want to prove it. Memphis has been fixing up and dusting off in preparation for your arrival in our fair city! Perhaps you are planning to conduct a little business, perhaps you are attending a convention, or maybe you are on vacation-whatever the occasion, we are delighted to have you visit Memphis. There are thousands of native Memphians and many more "transplanted" Memphians who proudly call this our home because of all it is and has to offer. The business slogan, "Distribution Capital of America" has its roots in the fact that the Mighty Mississippi meets several major rail lines and interstates along with our large and growing Memphis International Airport to provide quick and efficient distribution capabilities, no matter what the goods or services happen to be, to anywhere in the country. We are better known for being the "Home of the Blues" as you find Beale Street filled with clubs touting famous blues musicians and museums with extensive displays of historic facts surrounding the emergence of the blues. We proudly profess to be the "Birthplace of Rock n Roll" as Elvis; The King of Rock n Roll called Memphis his home. The famous Rock n' Soul and Stax Museums and Sun Studio tells the story of many other famous entertainers as well who got their start right here in Memphis. Our city is also home to The National Civil Rights Museum which is a must see for anyone visiting Memphis. The very site where Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated has been preserved and expanded to tell the complete story of the civil rights struggles in the sixties and beyond. This great city has many interesting sights to see, fun things to do, great places to shop, and some of the best restaurants to be found. Speaking of dining, it should be a crime for one to come and depart Memphis without having at least one meal of barbecue. We simply have the best! Making sure that you have an enjoyable experience is our #1 priority. History proves that if you like your visit to Memphis, you will come back soon-and bring a friend. There are friendly and helpful folks all over town delighted that you are here and ready to provide information or service with a smile. THANK YOU FOR VISITING MEMPHIS!!
